Documentation needed - When entering the country you will need to present the following documents:

  • A valid passport or other travel documents for each family member traveling with you; and Marriage certificate (if applicable)
  • Adoption documents (if applicable)
  • Children’s school record (if applicable)
  • Children’s immunization records (if applicable)
  • International driver’s licence
  • A Canadian immigrant visa
  • CoPR for each family member travelling with you;
  • Two copies each of Forms BSF186 (form B4) and BSF186A (form B4A).

Documents you will need when in Canada:

Social Insurance Number (SIN)

You need a Social Insurance Number (SIN) to work in Canada or receive benefits.

If it starts with "9", keep it up to date with your immigration document.

Once updated, you'll get a new SIN. If your SIN is expired, you can still work while waiting for your new immigration document, as long as you maintain your status.

Children

Childcare: If you have a child that is not yet old enough to enrol in school then finding childcare might be required.

In Canada, public school is free and available for children as young as 4 years old. The school year runs from late August early September until June, with closures for holidays. To enroll your child, you'll need to provide their;

● Birth certificate

● Proof of guardianship/custody

● Proof of residency

● And a record of their immunizations

If you have a child that would like to extend their education beyond high school than they can apply for post secondary education. They must apply for a specific program and be accepted by the school. A language test might be required if English or French is not their first language.
