EKO is a digital framework created by EllisDon’s Energy & Digital Services team. Think of it as a “connective tissue” for a hospital. It links clinical systems, building systems, and security systems so they can share information and trigger the right actions at the right time. In practice, EKO connects tools like Active Directory, HL7, Epic Rover, nurse call, real time locating, security infrastructure, and lighting controls into one platform. In other words, EKO connects to tools to help medical professionals do what they need to do efficiently and effectively. The system also uses closed loop communication, ensuring all alarms and events are answered and addressed as quickly as possible.
The goal is simple: improve clinical workflow, support safer operations, and strengthen the patient experience.

EKO for Healthcare
Contemporary hospitals often rely on manual processes (standalone systems with multiple communication channels) to support patient care delivery. EKO’s digital platform is designed to enhance existing patient care processes by connecting patients, medical devices, and facility and security teams through a unified information system. This solution significantly improves efficiency of operational workflows, care coordination, alarms and notification escalations.

Code Blue
- Medical staff receive a Code Blue notification on their mobile devices.
- Blue wayfinding lights guide the responders to the patient’s room.
- Doors automatically unlock along the way. Nearby elevators automatically open.
- The lights in the patient’s room automatically turn on, preparing for the team's arrival.
